Ian Chen was born on September 7, 2006 in Los Angeles. At age 5, Ian booked his first national commercial and has since then, steadily worked in commercials, print, and television shows. In March 2014, he landed his big break when he booked the comedic role of Evan Huang in ABC's "Fresh Off the Boat." He has also guest starred in "Grey's Anatomy" and "Dr. Ken." Cited by Variety as a young star to watch, and included in Entertainment Weekly's list of "12 under 12" outstanding youth actors, Ian loves being on set and learning all aspects of the filming process. As a trained singer, Ian appeared in the Hallmark Channel's "Home and Family" for his first television interview and live singing performance. He was subsequently invited to sing for many charity events, and has his own Instagram game called "Guess Ian" where he sings different styles of songs for people to guess. In addition to acting and singing, Ian enjoys playing violin and guitar, watching TV, reading, and playing airplane models with his friends. He also aspires to be a pilot when he grows up. I love researching them and flying them(in simulators). My dream job is to be a pilot! 4. How do you prepare for a role? I prepare for a role by practicing and memorizing lines. Also, I try to make myself familiar with the character and get myself into his shoes. 2. Can you tell us a little bit about your role in ‘’ Fresh Off The Boat’’? How would you describe Evan? Evan is smart, a little nerdy, he's definitely the "mommy's boy," and he's pretty vengeful. 3. Why and when did you decide to start your acting career? So, I didn't really dream about becoming an actor, I guess the "acting bug" just bit me. My mom got an e-mail regarding an open casting call for a commercial. I landed the job, then it just grew from there. 4. How would you describe the relationship between Jessica and Evan? Jessica and Evan are very close. Evan will do things to please Jessica.
